Caution: This is ranked 2-4 on EWG's database for nitrosamine contamination concerns. These are chemicals that are carcinogenic, but before you go off in a panic, a safety assessment by the Journal of Toxicology did not find anything potentially toxic or harmful. Nitrosamines are formed through a chemical reaction between a secondary amine and a nitrosating agent. Secondary amines are things found in preservatives such as DEA, TEA, OR MEA (ingredients that end in -amine). Nitrosating agents come from nitrates or nitrites or under storage conditions. In addition, most reputable cosmetic companies are not creating risky combinations of ingredients and follow strict regulations. However, just to be sure, we recommend looking into the brand of your product and looking at the ingredients list (we will likely point it out if something feels off!).
