Gives a cosmetic formula body (thickens and acts as a “base”) and has a velvety texture. On the skin, it makes the skin feel nice and soft. Chemically, it is a fatty alcohol, which means that it has an -OH alcohol group as well as a long chain of hydrocarbons (and therefore hydrophobic/oil loving) which helps deliver those softening properties.
