hi there! thank you so much for checking out The Flawless Truth!

if you’ve been following for a bit of time, you might be used to the usual Instagram posts + website updates. we decided to add a new aspect: blogs! much like traditional blog posts, these posts will be informal, fun, and maybe a little long at times. they will cover cosmetic–related topics in-depth with sprinkles of my opinions into them :)

˙⋆✮

for this first blog post, I wanted to talk more about why and how this little organization came to be. of course, you can click into the about us tab (not compatible on mobile yet :c) to get a shorter rundown, but I wanted to use this opportunity to explain everything. for starters, I love science and everything related to makeup and skincare. when I stumbled upon a formulation video by janethechemist, I instantly fell in love with cosmetic chemistry. I started looking up the ingredients in the makeup and skincare products that sat in my bathroom and discovered a completely new world full of long names, questionable geometric shapes, and health impacts.

after two semesters worth of research from websites such as Incidecoder to PubChem, I wanted to inspire others to discover the magic and beauty of cosmetic chemistry. however, everything that I compiled was just word soup — a mixture of jargon and images that looked like they didn’t belong on this planet. during my research, there was also a lot of online discourse about the health impacts of certain cosmetic ingredients. people voiced their concerns about putting “chemicals” onto their faces that could potentially permeate into the skin and the rest of the body. most of the time, however, this doesn’t happen or it doesn’t cause harmful health impacts. that said, there are still ingredients that can be sensitizing to certain skin types. I wanted to create awareness about the spread of misinformation as well as bringing attention to ingredients that are harmful at a smaller scope. thus, I created The Flawless Truth: an organization that simplifies cosmetic chemistry and is accessible and educational to anyone interested in the field.

that’s all for today’s blog post! I hope you enjoyed reading. I will likely post a blog once a month once school starts. meanwhile, the instagram will likely be more active so you can stay educated and have fun!
